Artificial lawn: A cost Effective Option

Artificial or synthetic lawns are a great success because they are evergreen; they need zero maintenance and require zero water. Artificial grasses are perfectly manicured and look healthy throughout the year without any interference of yours.

You don’t need to worry about your grass growing into your flower garden or certain trees hampering the growth of the grass. Neither do you have to put in lot of efforts in extracting any pre-existing weeds, applying fertilizers to help in growth, adequate watering etc. Maintaining a healthy lawn also includes the use chemicals that are prohibited in most of the state municipalities.

To set up natural lawns, you will either need to put in lot of efforts yourself or get the help of a hired professional to do it. It is both time consuming as well as expensive to complete the task yourself. Hiring a professional is also an expensive option. In addition to this, you have to deal with other problems associated with lawns like grubs that eat away at the grassroots resulting in dead patches because of the loss of nutrients.

Installing artificial grass will not only prevent you from facing such problems but it also time saving and cost effective.

Installing artificial lawns

Proper installation is needed to get high quality results. Artificial turf installation requires approximately 2 days to install the first 500 square feet and an additional day for every additional 300 square feet. You should not install the artificial ones when the temperature is below 50 degrees F.

Artificial turf installation measurement

Before installing the turf, you should measure the installation area and then order for the right size. Artificial grasses come in various sizes and widths. Always purchase the grass in fixed widths.

How to install the artificial grass

Here are some tips that will help you in your installation and maintenance process.

  • Installation can be done after the grass has been allowed to soak direct sunlight for 2 hours. This helps to settle the wrinkles in the backing. Then use the power broom to brush the grass fibres in the opposite direction they are laying before installing to make the infill much easier.
  • If you want to create a realistic appearance then proper seaming is required. Once the seaming is done, dried and fitted together in rolls, you can go for a carpet installer if you do not want to do it yourself.
  • You should always practise the seaming process beforehand with samples to let your work go smoothly with the turf you are installing.
  • You should always do the infilling process evenly. You can use a drop spreader or a shovel to distribute the infill evenly.
  • Brush the artificial grass with a power broom to stabilize the fibres and to keep the grass clean. You can always use a leaf blower to clean any kind of debris on the grass.
